Last year I told educators around the country that Design 39 Campus would be a destination not to be missed, and I was right. While small private schools can more easily claim the mantle of 21st century progressivism, a large public school, in the state with some of the lowest per-student funding in the country faces challenges that many schools and districts find insurmountable even to contemplate. Yet here it is, with strong support from the teacher’s union, the parents, and the community. What an honor to have worked during the imagination of this school; I will continue to monitor and share their successes, obstacles, and trials.
D39C is a work in progress; that is the point. It won’t be the same next year as this year. Isn’t that what it means to lead in times of change?
